Street Team July Challenge
Greetings Afterlife Angels!
I’m really excited about this month’s announcement and Street Team Challenge! After much planning and delay, I’m finally able to roll out my Author Visit program.
Through the Author Visit program, I am making myself available to meet, in-person or virtually through video chat, to book clubs, reader groups, libraries, community groups, and classrooms. These visits are free; I do not charge an honorarium for visiting with book clubs, reader groups, and the like.
This has been in the planning stages for a long time, but due to this and that, I was never able to commit to implementing before now. I love connecting with people to talk about books and writing, and with the advent of video chat platforms such as Skype, Google+ Hangouts, and Go To Meeting, this is now easier than ever. It also gives authors the flexibility to meet with fans anywhere in the world.
To that end, I am setting a goal of conducting at least 20 author visits between now and the end of the year. And for that, I need your help.
The Challenge:
For this month’s Street Team challenge, I’m asking for help spreading the word about my Author Visit program. I have set up a page on my website that has all of the details as well as an author visit request/sign up form (http://terribruce.net/appearances/book-an-author-visit). As a Street Team member, you get first dibs on booking a visit (ever wanted to host an author visit in your living room for friends and family? Well, now you can!).
I've created a flyer advertising my new Author Visit program, which I've attached as a PDF and a JPG. Please share this flyer with friends, family, local libraries, book clubs, schools (high schools, colleges, and universities), writing groups, senior centers, book stores, community groups… anywhere that hosts author readings or author talks. I'm happy to mail you a stack of printed flyers if needed; just email and let me know how many you need.
The Reward:
The reward for this month’s challenge participants is a signed, custom chapbook containing one of my unpublished/pre-release short stories (I haven’t decided on which story yet, but I’m thinking it will be “The Lady and the Unicorn” which is my favorite. I call it my “feminist biker-unicorn story.” It’s a tribute to “The Lady or the Tiger” by Frank Stockton, one of my all-time favorite stories and a twist on the original unicorn mythology). This is a one of a kind item, not available anywhere else. Of course, your thank you package may also contain a few other assorted goodies because you all know I always love to throw in a few extra items.
To be eligible for the challenge reward:
- the organization(s) referred by you must sign up for an author visit within the next three (3) months (by October 1st)
- the organization(s) signing up for an author visit must list you as the referrer on the author visit request form
- the author visit(s) must actually happen (not just be booked and cancelled or no-showed)
The reward package (chap book) will be delivered to all recipients in early October.
If any Street Team member’s referrals results in completed author visits with five different organizations/groups, then they will receive an additional “to be determined” prize. I’m thinking a copy of my collected short stories (this would be a private/custom book as my short stories are not currently bundled into one collection) or Amazon gift card or something along those lines. But, honestly, I haven’t thought that far ahead because it doesn’t seem likely that multiple author visit requests will come from the same referral source, but prove me wrong! I promise there will be a second prize awarded to anyone whose referrals results in five or more author visits.
