You won’t find any Chosen Ones among the pages of my books. Instead, you’ll find ordinary people, usually from the “real” world, who find themselves amid the fantastical—or horrifying—that lurks all around us, unseen.
So much of my childhood reading contained wonderous tales that mixed fantasy and reality—The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Dollhouse Caper, A Wrinkle in Time, The Midnight Folk—and as a writer, I aim to create stories that capture that same combination of wonder and import, of losing oneself to find oneself, of navigating the places between worlds, but for adults. Not dark and gritty like urban fantasy and not sweeping and grand like epic fantasy; instead, small stories, close to home, that get under the skin and stay with you. Readers of slipstream and “new weird” authors such as China Mieville and Tim Powers and readers of contemporary/literary science fiction and fantasy stories such as “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “Neverwhere” will find themselves at home here.
