Give it up for not sucking!

The year's flown by on the wings of so many emotions. Aggravation and consternation, happiness and exultation. And work, work, work. My first novel, The Pyramid Waltz, was published on September 18th, and good folks like those on the BRoP helped me promote it. I've met more people, both digitally and in person in the last year than I've probably met in the last five years. Some have become friends even though we've never actually met, and I was ecstatic to meet some of my cyber friends in person at last, (Hi, Terri!) [Terri Responds: HI BARBARA!!!].

I will not throw up...I will not throw up

For an introvert like me, it's been kind of a difficult journey. I love that people want to talk to me about my book in person, and I hope they didn't mind when I almost seized up mid-conversation. When speaking in front of a crowd, I had to aim my speech at the front row and pretend no one else was present. (Thank you, front row.) I did a lot of theatre in high school, and I only managed because when the stage lights were on, I couldn't see the audience. Even now, whenever I'm in front of a crowd, I have to take some time to myself later on and just breathe. I nearly cried so many times this past year, just from the sheer emotion of it all. I'm so grateful for the people who know me well enough to leave me alone in those moments, to let me stand in the shower and pretend nothing else exists. And then to smile knowingly when I have to surround myself with glitter and just…be.

I'm...home

Onward, to 2013! To plenty of caffeine and then a sleeping pill at night to bring me the hell down.  I've got quite a few personal appearances scheduled in 2013. I will most likely be in Palm Springs at the Casitas Laquita Resort from February 28 to March 3. I will definitely be at Aggiecon 44: March 22-24, Lone Star LesFic Festival: April 5-6, Space City Con: August 2-4, and I might be at freaking World Con in August/September. Watch my blog for more dates and cons as I get word of them.

The Pyramid Waltz won't be the only thing I'm promoting. It's sequel, For Want of a Fiend, comes out in May. More on that on my own blog anon. (Everyone should use anon in a blog post at least once in their lives.) What's that? You want a little taste now? Okay, I'll give you two words: Pennynail unmasked. Good enough? ^_^

I hope your new year has plenty of time for you to calm down and even more times to get wound up. I wish you many sparkles and very happy days to come.
