Beyond that, some important promotional opportunities only open up to authors when they reach a certain number of reviews - 10, 50, and 100 are key milestone number of reviews that open doors for authors. Thereafter (Afterlife #2) is currently at 8 reviews on Amazon, and I'd like, with your help, to get it to the next milestone.

This month, I'm celebrating not just spring, but also the release of my third novel, Whereafter (which comes out March 15th), so for my giveaway I'm giving away an awesome swag pack featuring these adorable notecards from On Cupcake Moon!

The reason I love these notecards and am featuring them in my giveaway is that Whereafter features a character name Char (short for Chartreuse), who looks a lot like this zombie girl:

Jonah glanced up as the bell over the magic shop’s door jangled. He blinked in surprise. A girl had entered the shop, about his age or maybe a little younger, tiny, with elfin features and straight, waist-length, jet-black hair streaked with vivid purple. She wore a tight, black tank top, short, flouncy skirt, purple- and black-striped tights, and black, knee-high, lace-up combat boots. Even stranger, she had come in the ghost side of the store even though she didn’t have the blue-white shimmer of the dead.

When I saw these notecards, I knew I just had to have them! My giveway is open internationally. Good luck! While you're here, stop and take a look around - I've got a few other giveaways going on and some exciting events coming up. Plus, the e-book of HEREAFTER, the first novel in my Afterlife series, is on sale on Amazon for only $0.99!

Why let a little thing like dying get in the way of a good time?

Thirty-six-year-old Irene Dunphy didn't plan on dying any time soon, but that’s exactly what happens when she makes the mistake of getting behind the wheel after a night bar-hopping with friends. She finds herself stranded on earth as a ghost, where the food has no taste, the alcohol doesn’t get you drunk, and the sex...well, let’s just say “don’t bother.” To make matters worse, the only person who can see her—courtesy of a book he found in his school library—is a fourteen-year-old boy genius obsessed with the afterlife.

Unfortunately, what waits in the Great Beyond isn’t much better. Stuck between the boring life of a ghost in this world and the terrifying prospect of three-headed hell hounds, final judgment, and eternal torment in the next, Irene sets out to find a third option—preferably one that involves not being dead anymore. Can she wipe the slate clean and get a second chance before it’s too late?

We're celebrating Valentine's Day with a blog hop! Visit all of the participating bloggers listed below and enter to win sweet prizes on each blog! Every blog is hosting a different giveaway - each with a prize worth at least $25.

I love Valentine's Day - I mean, how can you not love a holiday that is a celebration of all things chocolate?! I'm very lucky that my husband is incredibly romantic so I always have a lovely Valentine's Day. My dad is a big romantic, too, and one of my favorite memories growing up was my dad bringing my mother a dozen roses every Valentine's as well as a small box of chocolates or a rose for both me and my sister. My uncles used to each give my grandmother (their mother) one of the fancy, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates on Valentine's Day, and I think there was a competition among them to see who could give her the fanciest box. My grandmother kept all those empty boxes - "They're too pretty to throw away," she'd always say. We never did find a use for them and they ended up getting tossed out when she moved to a nursing home (anyone know a good re-use for them???).

Did you know, however, that Valentine's Day overlaps with the ancient Roman festival of Parentalia (February 13th-21st),  Parentalia is a ceelebration/commemeration of the dead - specifically dead family members. It was a time to cook their favorite foods and to go to the cemetery and clean off the graves (similar to American Memorial Day). So, to celebrate both these holidays, I'm giving away an awesome little swag pack which has a hand-made bookmark, SIGNED Hereafter and Thereafter swag, and this set of these adorable notecards from One Moon Cupcake on Etsy, plus a $10 Amazon Gift Card. I've made my giveway international. Good luck!

My Best Birthday Memories

My Best Birthday Memories

Welcome to my virtual birthday party! This month, I’m celebrating three important dates: my birthday, the six-month anniversary of my “book baby,” Hereafter, and the feast of Parentalia (February 13th-21st), an ancient Roman celebration to commemorate one’s ancestors and placate the spirits of the dead.

Today I wanted to share with you my best birthday memories. Over the years, my birthday has been a mixed bag, sort of like Forest Gump’s chocolates—I never knew what I was going to get.

Veneration of the Dead Festivals

Festivals of the Dead

Welcome to my virtual birthday party! This month, I’m celebrating three important dates: my birthday, the six-month anniversary of my “book baby,” Hereafter, and the feast of Parentalia (February 13th-21st), an ancient Roman celebration to commemorate one’s ancestors and placate the spirits of the dead.

Parentalia is one of many “veneration of the dead” celebrations practiced around the world and at different times in history. Today, I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite “veneration of the dead” celebrations. Many of them are very similar, but each is also unique in some way, incorporating rituals or beliefs not found anywhere else.
