Old Book Monday - August 6

Quite a few book bloggers participate in a weekly meme in which they share delicious and mouth-watering pictures of the new books they have recently received. I love strolling through the blogosphere and checking out these pictures. I don’t buy a lot of new books but realized I could still participate by sharing pictures of what I do buy a lot of—OLD books. Hence, “Old Book Mondays.”

This week’s “Old Book Monday” continues last week post on... book swag books!

A couple of weeks ago, I attended Readercon, and oh my, there was book swag to behold! Lots and lots of book swag! So here is the second post on books that caught my eye (and which have all been added to my Goodreads "to read" list).

readercon 09Now we've moved into epic fantasy. This one was just a wee bit odd in that the swag seems to be advertising two different books, but I'm pretty sure these are both for the same book (?). This book sounds awesome and, of course, inspires comparisons to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which just makes it all the more awesome!

readercon 10The bookmark on the left is advertising "Rapunzel's Daughters and Other Tales," an anthology of 30 tales that answer the question, "What happened after 'happily ever after'?" The tagline of the book on the right (World Soul by Liz Williams) is, "What if being a librarian was the most dangerous job in the world?" - AWESOME!

readercon 11This one sounds interesting--it's got a "chick lit" feel but the description sounds kind of epic fantasy-ish, so it will be interesting to see the execution of this story.

readercon 12Okay, I have never heard of the "color" fairy tale books, but having seen this card, I MUST have them! What's not to love about books titled by color?!

readercon 13Not only does this book sounds interesting (it's about the Fae and Titiana and Oberon!), but the swag was a very thick/high quality, business card sized postcard, which was very unusual and caught my attention.

readercon 14Okay, every year I go to Readercon, see the Clarksworld table, and resolve to subscribe to this magazine. Even if I never open a single issue, it would be worth the price, because the cover art is so amazing! I love the Clarksworld style--what's even more amazing is that this isn't all done by one artist, but many different artists!

readercon 15Here's another magazine, which seems to have a bit of a Clarksworld feel in the artwork. In fact, I picked this flyer up thinking it was for Clarksworld, so it should be interesting to see what the magazine has to offer.

readercon 16And this pic has swag for four "related" items (from top left, to bottom right)--The art of Paula Arwen Friedlander; The Green Hand Bookshop in Portland, ME (whose swag is thick, like a coaster, which is cool unto itself); Weightless Books eBook store; and A Dictionary of Made-Up Languages.
