Boskone Art Show Recap

So I attended my first Boskone and I am hard pressed to say whether I enjoyed the mango cheesecake served at the reception the first night or the art show more—and while that might sound like sarcasm, it’s actually not. Both were excellent and both will live in my memory for a long, long time. There were many other highlights to the convention, too, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just that the art show and the mango cheesecake were EXCEPTIONAL!

Due to the bad weather, I didn’t attend the last day of the convention,

Birthday Bash Missing Blog Posts

There were a couple of small snafus with guest posts during the Birthday Bash Blog Tour. Due to a small mix up, two site hosts both got the same guest post, when in fact, Bookin' It Reviews should have gotten this post on "Veneration of the Dead Festivals" (I apologize for the mix up, Talina!). Also, the full text of the "My Best Birthday Memories" post can be found here. Lastly, if you missed the "Ghosts, Beans, and Parentalia" post at Vivi Dumas's site (which did get posted), please check it out. I was particularly proud of that bit of ghostly research. :-)

My Best Birthday Memories

My Best Birthday Memories

Welcome to my virtual birthday party! This month, I’m celebrating three important dates: my birthday, the six-month anniversary of my “book baby,” Hereafter, and the feast of Parentalia (February 13th-21st), an ancient Roman celebration to commemorate one’s ancestors and placate the spirits of the dead.

Today I wanted to share with you my best birthday memories. Over the years, my birthday has been a mixed bag, sort of like Forest Gump’s chocolates—I never knew what I was going to get.

Veneration of the Dead Festivals

Festivals of the Dead

Welcome to my virtual birthday party! This month, I’m celebrating three important dates: my birthday, the six-month anniversary of my “book baby,” Hereafter, and the feast of Parentalia (February 13th-21st), an ancient Roman celebration to commemorate one’s ancestors and placate the spirits of the dead.

Parentalia is one of many “veneration of the dead” celebrations practiced around the world and at different times in history. Today, I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite “veneration of the dead” celebrations. Many of them are very similar, but each is also unique in some way, incorporating rituals or beliefs not found anywhere else.

In Case You Missed It: Birthday Bash Blog Tour

birthday
So, it's my birthday (yay!), and it's Hereafter's six-month anniversary since release (YAY!), AND it's the feast of Parentalia (say what?), so I figured it was time to throw a party...and you're all invited! YAAAYYYYYY!!!!

Thanks to the lovely Roxanne Rhodes and the folks at Bewitching Book Tours we are having a birthday party of epic portions. February 11th - 18th is my Birthday Bash Blog Tour. We've got 16 blog tour stops where we're talking birthday bucket lists, Parentalia, insider backstory on Hereafter, sneak peaks of Thereafter (due out June 1st), and giving away two awesome prize packs.

Boskone and Ghosts Panel

I've got so much going on, I'm not sure if I'm coming or I'm going. In addition to the Birthday Bash Blog Tour, this is what else I've got going on in the next couple of weeks:

Boskone (New England Science Fiction Assocation Convention), Boston, MA
Friday, February 15th through Sunday, February 17th I'll be attending Boskone in Boston, MA. On Friday @ 8 pm I'll be reading from Hereafter as part of the Broad Universe Rapid Fire Reading. The rest of the time, find me at the Broad Universe table in the Huckster's Room, signing copies of Hereafter, or lurking around panels. By the way - is it my imagination or is George R.R. Martin's name on this program as well???

If you're participating in the New England Broad Universe Scavenger Hunt, Boskone is a good place to track down a good percentage of us (and the RFR is a great opportunity to get us all at one fell swoop!)

Ghosts, Spirits, and the Afterlife Panel, Worcester, MA
Due to the blizzard/snowmaggedon/snowpocalypse Nemo, the Ghosts, Spirits, and the Afterlife panel at Annie's Book Stop in Worcester, MA, originally scheduled for February 9th, will be held on Saturday, February 23rd from 4 pm to 6 pm, followed by a book signing from 6 to 7 pm. Another great opportunity to get some signatures for the New England Broad Universe Scavenger Hunt - the panel features me, Jennifer Pellend, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, and Morven Westfield, plus there may be other Broads lurking in the audience.

Today, supernatural/dark fiction author Juli D. Revezzo stopped by, courtesy of BRoP member Sandra Ulbrich Almazon, to talk about the creative process and her novel, The Artist's Inheritence - a paranormal tale with a twist (based on the description/blurb, I definitely haven't seen any stories like this anywhere else!) and the first book of the Antique Magic series.
