Fellow Broad Universe member (and horse lover), Catherine McLean is here today to share a little bit about herself and to tell us about her latest novels, Karma and Mayhem and Jewels of the Sky--published back-to-back in September and November (wow!). I love the cover for Karma and Mayhem!

An Interview with Author Gail Z. Martin

Fellow Broad Universe member, Gail Z. Martin is here today to share a little bit about herself and to tell us about her latest novel, Ice Forged. Gail writes epic fantasy, a genre that has traditionally been the domain of male authors; it always fascinates me to hear how authors get drawn to a genre that has dominated by the other gender and what crossing the gender boundary has been like.

February Blog Tours

I'm all tingly with anticipation - lots of big events coming up in February! It's my birthday so I decided to throw myself a blog tour birthday party--and you're all invited!

I've got two events going on:

The first is a one week blog tour February 11th - 18th to promote Hereafter arranged by Bewitching Book Tours. If you're interested in being a tour stop, go here.

The second is a one week scavenger hunt February 18th-22nd to both promote Hereafter and release some teaser hints of what's coming up in the sequel, Thereafter (coming June 1st!). I'm booking this one myself and I'm looking for 5-7 blogs to host an excerpt from Hereafter in which one word will be highlighted in red. Readers will visit each participating blog, collect the red words, and then unscramble them to get a preview of Thereafter (and enter a raffle for a cool prize). If you're interested in participating in this event, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

(BTW, Thereafter has been loaded to Goodreads (no cover art yet - you have to wait for the official cover reveal tour for that!) so if you want to see the description/back cover blurb...)

Meanwhile, there's still time to vote for Hereafter in the P&E Readers' Choice Awards (voting ends January 14th). Thank you to everyone who has voted so far--Hereafter has a very strong showing, and I'm hoping it ends up in the top ten!

An Interview with Author Susan Curnow

Author Susan Curnow is here today to talk about the creative process and to talk about her novel Games of Adversaries. Susan's interview made me laugh - her and I are a lot alike in many ways (HORSES! Oh, sorry, I had some kind of automatic response kick in there). I love the lyrical writing style of her back cover blurb, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading this book!

Big, Big News

bignews
So…it’s been a week of BIG, BIG NEWS…

First and foremost, I can now officially announce that Thereafter, the sequel to Hereafter and the second book in my Afterlife Series, will be released on June 1, 2013 (available to order starting May 1st)!!!
happy
You know what this means…over the next couple of months be on the lookout for cover art reveals and teaser excerpts! In fact, I can tell you that I’m planning a big blog tour in February to coincide with Parentalia (more about that in a future blog post), in which I’ll be revealing many hints about what’s coming up in Book 2 (and beyond!).

The second bit of big news is that Hereafter has been nominated for the Preditors and Editors’s “Best of 2012” Readers' Choice Poll in the Science Fiction and Fantasy category!!! Thank you to whoever nominated me – it might be clichéd, but it really is an honor just to know that there’s someone out there who liked my work enough to nominate it for an award. Voting ends January 10th - if you have a moment, please vote for Hereafter!

Thank you so much to all of you for making 2012 such a great year! Thanks to you, it looks like 2013 is going to be even better!

One Year Ends...

To know who needs help, you need only just ask” ~Old City Bar, Trans-Siberian Orchestra

I wanted to write a blog post about something today, but I’m not sure what, exactly. I knew I wanted it to be about Sandy Hook and #26Acts, about gift giving and how to support authors (and really, any service professional/artist/entrepreneur/small business owner), about my own “year in review” and my secret hopes and wishes for 2013, about losing and recovering my Christmas spirit this year, about joining Free Cycle and throwing out my childhood stuffed animals and just generally trying to declutter my life, on missing my mother and my grandmother more each year since their deaths, not less. However, I just couldn’t get it all to gel. I wanted to talk about giving, but I also wanted to ask for things. I wanted to talk about kindness and happiness, but I also wanted to talk about loss and sadness. In our hearts, these things can all mix together very naturally—great joy can often exist beside great sorrow; selflessness can be entwined with selfishness. Very often, in our heads, they go together as well—rationales and rationalizations for contrary ways of thinking and being. But on the cold, hard reality of paper (or computer screen, as the case may be), it’s harder to mask selfishness as generosity, sorrow as joy, and thoughts and feelings that make sense in my head all seem pompous, self-serving, disjointed, and crass. So, instead, I’ll simply wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that somewhere among these words and links you’ll find what it is I meant to say.

"When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." ~Khalil Gibran
